Hi N&D here, this was a portrait photography and videography shoot for local Snohomish County business owner Miranda, of Foggé Crystal Company. We did not have to travel for this photography session as Miranda met with us at our home, so getting all of our gear ready was as easy as glancing over at it. After a quick discussion about what types of photos we might like to capture (Miranda expressed an interest in the forest) we promptly went down into the woods which also just so happens to be our backyard. Golden hour was arriving right on time so everything was going according to plan. While taking photos and videos we regaled stories from our youth and laughed about the follies we had been through since we had last seen each other, you see... we actually knew Miranda growing up in school but it had been years since we last spoke. Seeing Miranda again and the success of her business was an inspiration to us and we would love to work with her more in the future. Miranda claimed she never had professional photos taken like this so it was fun to be able to give her a spontaneous and fruitful experience through our lenses, hoping to catch some of that wonderful sunset lighting. From Miranda's one of a kind jewelry wraps that were mesmerizing to behold to the fun memories we shared during the golden hour woodland photo session we were honored she chose us to provide the images that would represent Foggé Crystal Company.
Capturing the Joy of Miranda and the Heart of Foggé Crystal Company
Through Foggé Crystal Company Miranda places the beauty of nature on a pedestal by intricately and laboriously wrapping various gemstones and agates in a beautiful custom copper fitment. N&D's goal was to capture this passionate personality on camera and help Miranda show a little more of the woman behind the work. Miranda lights up talking about her work so getting her to do that was the first step in capturing her fiery personality but to truly capture the joyous person we knew she was, getting her to laugh would be the next step. Now I (Dawson) don't wanna burry the lead but Im a pretty funny guy, it was like cutting butter with a hot knife. This photo and video shoot was so much fun because not only did we get to capture an old friend's contagious personality but we also got to help magnify the "real" her to her patrons. Between making Miranda sit in the dirt in her beautiful green dress to chatting for hours with her after the shoot in our house with the cat and dog N&D Wedding Photography and Film was happy to help this nature girl shine.
A Green Dress in a Washington Forest
In addition to the stunning amulet around Miranda's neck another show stopper was the incredible green dress she wore to the photo and video shoot. At first it seemed as though the vivid green dress might blend in with the forest walls but after making our way down into the woods we realized this would not be an issue, the light from the golden hour sun was dancing across all the different bits of moss covered rocks and trees it could find creating a wonderful illuminated backdrop for Miranda . Miranda preferred to stay within the woods for the entire shoot because trees and nature are her entire vibe as well as being completely intertwined with Foggé Crystal Company's. All these vibes and emotions are what we were trying to capture in the woods that day, N&D can't wait for another opportunity like this to arise and we hope it does!
The Product
We don't normally do product photography, not because we don't want to but actually because we just haven't really had the opportunity yet. Now these weren't necessarily product photography photos if we're being honest, it just felt like such a missed opportunity to not take at least a few pictures of Miranda's creations, especially with the light of the sun casting is long warm glow onto them. The wraps on her necklaces were just so intricate and colorful that it felt like you could touch the texture and feel the cold metal containing the gemstones through the images alone. I wouldn't call this product photography but who knows... maybe it's a start.
Miranda's Portraits
About two days after the shoot Nicole completed the short film she had made for Miranda and within an hour after delivery the film was posted by Miranda on all of her socials which was a great feeling for us. A couple weeks went by after the shoot ended before I (Dawson) sent the finished photos to Miranda and true to form it wasn't but a couple hours after delivery that we saw Miranda posting the photos. She told us she was "happy to have some professional images that not only made her company look good but that also made her feel beautiful"; that warmed my heart and in truth made me feel validated in this artistic adventure.
