Hi N&D here, We are so excited to share our very first wedding blog post. This was actually the very first wedding we had ever photographed and filmed so we were a little nervous. The day started with getting all our gear in the car and heading out to Bothell, WA. After about a forty minute drive we arrived at Crosspointe Church in Bothell, the vibrant celebration had already begun to slowly turn its wheels by the time we had arrived so we had to quickly get to work. The funny thing is, we weren’t even hired to do the photography for the wedding, the bride and groom had already hired a photographer. We were actually brought on last minute by the bride’s father as videographers and we used the opportunity to also snag some photos anytime we got a chance in between filming. Everyone at the wedding was in such a good mood and so excited to just basically be existing that we were able to perfectly capture the candid, "unscripted" style of shooting that we strive for. From the unique Americana theme to the spontaneous and lively energy of the reception, we were honored to have this be the wedding that launched our journey into wedding photography and videography.
Capturing the Energy of a Bothell Wedding
As a married couple that is new to the wedding photography and film scene in the Seattle area but not new to photography and film as a whole, we understand how important the emotions of a wedding are to capture. We’ve been telling emotional stories through films and photography for years, this is just the first time doing it at a wedding which was a ton of fun considering with our photography (not so much film) we are usually trying to tell a visual story with mostly inanimate things like buildings. We try to focus on the raw emotion of your closest friends and family by framing shots/scenes in a way that magnify those emotions and then waiting for those perfect candid moments. This wedding brought so much joy and life to such an overcast day, whether it was the groom's laughter under the cherry blossoms or the cinematic send off at the end of the night “N&D” was there to document the genuine bonds that made the wedding day so special.
The Unique Americana Theme at Crosspointe Church
One of the highlights of our first wedding was the couple’s fun sense of style, heavily leaning into the Americana aesthetic. The bride’s vibrant blue dress paired wonderfully against the backdrop of vivid red bridesmaids dresses. We were limited to the Bothell Crosspointe Church parking lot as our photography and film location but that didn’t stop the cherry blossoms from chewing up the scenery as well. These are all the kinds of little details we looked for when shooting the Bothell wedding, and these are the types of details N&D will search for in the future.
Reception Magic
As a married photographer and videographer duo, we were very much looking forward to the wedding reception. The real party starts at the reception and we knew this would lead to some great slow motion cinematography and wonderful opportunities for paparazzi style flash photography. Whether it was the excitement of the dance floor or the high octane energy of the bouquet toss, the footage and photography we captured that night are what really brought the wedding to life for us.
The Grand Finale: A Glow Tube Exit to Remember
Ending the night with a giant glow tube tunnel was a great way to send off the newly married bride and groom. After exiting the tunnel the bride and groom rushed over to their getaway vehicle and drove off into the night. If you’re ever looking for a fun way to plan a wedding exit this is a fantastic, vibrant alternative to traditional sparklers that still looks incredible both in photos and video.
